JOB SUMMARY

The Production Manager is responsible for leading the Davenport production operations to achieve or exceed profit and customer service objectives, as well as managing maintenance, and production operations in a legally compliant and safe work environment. Will strives to make continuous improvements in the areas of safety, quality, maintenance and production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Production/Continuous Improvement
• Establishes, promotes and manages production operations in accordance with the Company mission, strategy and profitability objectives. Reviews budget vs. actual and looks for ways to reduce costs.
• Provides work direction, training and standards for the production, maintenance and scheduling departments. Maximizes the effective utilization of the manufacturing resources.
• Manages the upkeep of the facility. Maintains a production environment that meets or exceeds all applicable government, OSHA and Solar standards.
• Develops systems and procedures to maximize effective communication and administrative consistency within the production team. Measures the performance of the manufacturing operations and makes improvements to correct any issues affecting the performance.
• Works on the production floor, as needed. Provides leadership and knowledge to continuously improve safety, quality and throughput. Addresses issues as they arise. Visits all shifts and addresses issues.
• Facilitates, drives and supports continuous improvement within the Davenport production facility. Prioritizes and leads specific continuous improvement projects.
• Reviews weekly scrap, takes appropriate corrective action and documents action on the CAPA log. Reviews returns and determines if they can be reworked or not. Works with Quality to make decisions on issuing credits to customers.
• Orders production and MRO supplies needed to achieve goals. Reviews and signs off on production bills. Negotiates lower charges when possible.
Maintenance
• Prioritizes the maintenance activities and sets improvement goals for the Maintenance staff.
• Prioritizes mold repair work as needed, and ensures that proper mold repair techniques are used.
• Problem solves and identifies opportunities for equipment/facility maintenance improvements.
Customer Support
• Reviews/provides input into quotation process and project development.
• Participates in conference calls with customers, as needed.
Supervision, Mentoring and Development of Staff
• Motivates and leads a high-performance team and provides mentoring as a cornerstone to achieving results.
• Manages six 4 direct reports. Indirectly manages all production employees. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination & evaluation of this staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies & applicable laws. This includes interviewing employees, planning, assigning & directing work, appraising performance; rewarding & disciplining employees; addressing complaints & resolving issues/problems.
• Evaluates internal structure and plans for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group, as well as provides direct reports with professional and personal growth opportunities.
• Fosters a success-oriented, accountable environment and generates “accountability” factor with each direct report.
• Meets frequently with each direct report to review and help prioritize projects. Ensures supervisors and leads have a good knowledge of the process and addresses specific issues that are occurring on their applicable shift(s).
Additional duties, including, but not limited to:
• Ensures certification matrix is updated in a timely manner..
• Problem solves and identifies opportunities for equipment/facility maintenance improvements.
• Maintains involvement in organizations and training to remain current with relevant industry technologies and areas of specialization.
• Supports management systems of ISO 9000 and ISO 14001 as required
• Performs related tasks as directed to aid in maintaining a safe, efficient and productive operation.
• Report and (if possible) resolve potential safety issues. Promote safety.
• Miscellaneous duties, as assigned by the Division Manager.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

Production/Continuous Improvement
• Procedures are in place and training is conducted.
• Posts updated, detailed project lists with goals.
• Budgets stay within projected amounts.
• Ensures production staff is informed of processes and procedures, changes and appropriately trained in a timely manner.
• Meet company scrap goals. Ensure effective corrective actions are taken on scrap parts resulting in more than $1000 lost revenue per week. >95% on time delivery. Meet Company PPM goals.
• Available plant capacity keeps pace with demand, so that lead times do not increase.
Customer Support:
• Develops favorable relationships with customers.
• Minimal customer complaints; resolves customer issues immediately.
Supervision, Mentoring and Developing Staff:
• Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities and accountability of all direct reports are defined and understood. Ensures each direct report has an “accountability” factor and that they meet goals and objectives.
• Updates job description/performance measurements for each direct report on an annual basis.

• Cohesively work with peers: Engineering Manager and Quality Manager to drive success
• Ability to make short term gains while developing long term plan for success

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
• Required: Associates Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, with an emphasis in Plastics Manufacturing. Coursework in the following necessary: Safety/OSHA, Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent), Manufacturing Processes and Supervisory Training.
• Desired: Bachelors Degree. Coursework in 5S, Lean Manufacturing and Statistics/Algebra/Geometry.
• Certifications: Six Sigma desirable
Experience
Minimum of ten (10) years of manufacturing experience; supervisory/management experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead a large team and get results through others; broad technical and administrative experience in a manufacturing environment; rotational molding and ISO experience desirable.
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to analyze and understand financial reports, budgets and associated information. Good statistics knowledge.
• Proven ability to lead people and manage processes for efficiency and expected results.
• Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
• Knowledgeable about molding/trimming equipment and the type of work that can be accomplished with them; knowledgeable about rotational molding and the parameters that impact the process; knowledgeable about CNC operations.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively lead people to accomplish an objective. Ability to troubleshoot, negotiate and problem solve.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, and other computer based software and or systems, such as Pro Engineering and Rotolog. Working knowledge of M2M software.

Physical Requirements
• This position requires an individual to see and hear 8+ hours per day. Incumbent is required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal, analyzing data, viewing and interpreting activity throughout the plant, etc.
• Requires the ability to sit, stand and walk up to 8+ hours per day. Requires the ability to work at a rapid speed, twist, bend, push, pull, carry, stoop, lift, reach and grasp 8+ hours per day for activities such as working on equipment, making repairs, etc. Requires continuous finger movement and keyboard usage for data entry, carrying and using welding equipment, tools, etc.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds on a regular basis.
Working Conditions
• Exposed to heat, cold and potential internal temperature changes up to 5+ hours per day in the office and out in the production plant. Seasonal fluctuations. Exposed to dust, dirt, fumes/vapors/gases from plastics processes, ovens and propane tanks while in the production plant.
• This position exists in an office environment, with frequent need to enter the production and shop area.
• This position works independently 8+ hours per day and works directly with others. Ability to work additional hours, as needed to accommodate issues that may arise in the 24-hour operation.
Personal Protection Equipment
Eye safety glasses necessary to enter production area.
Travel Requirements
Requires 5% travel to other facilities or customer locations, as needed via automobile and/or airplane.
